Supporting Youth Through STEM Education

• Start each letter with a generic greeting such as “Dear Friend” or “Dear Future Leader.”
• Write a message of encouragement to the students.
• Keep the message light and fun. Encourage them to pursue an education in STEM and be creative.
• Sign the card with your first name or anonymously, for example “A Friend in [your hometown].”

Before packing

• Decorate the outside of the white paper bags using the STEM stickers, markers, or any art supplies you may have.
• Lay out all supplies on a flat surface and keep items grouped together for easier packing.

1. Remove the lids from the jars.
2. Add one bag of plant food to each jar.
3. Add one packet of seeds to each jar.
4. Add one piece of rope to each jar.
5. Cut the 3 cubes of rockwool with scissors and add one to each jar.
6. Place 1 net pot in the top of each jar. Rearrange contents if necessary.
7. Screw the outer ring of the jar lid onto the mason jar to secure the net pot.
8. Evenly divide the clay pebbles labeled grow medium into the 3 bags provided. Seal the bags and set them aside. These will go directly into the white paper bags.
9. Prep jar tags:
   1. Write a note, draw a picture, or label the jar tag based on the seed packet in each jar.
   2. Use the twine provided to tie the jar tag around the top of the jar.

• Place each packed mason jar inside the bubble wrap sleeves, then place one inside each decorated bag.
• Place 1 bag of grow medium inside each decorated bag.
• Place 1 card of support into each decorated bag.
• Place 1 copy of the Mason Jar Herb Garden Kit Instructions into each decorated bag.
• Take photos of your finished STEM kits to share with your coworkers.
• Put the completed kits into the original box.
• Once the box is sealed, add the pre-paid shipping label and place the package in the mail with USPS.
